Master in Economics
The Master of Science in Economics is a two-year program taught in English.
Entry Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics or an equivalent degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts or a degree in a related field with a focus on quantitative economics) with the final grade “good” (the German grade 2,3) or better.
- A solid background in Mathematics (differential and integral calculus, linear algebra) statistical methods (descriptive and inferential statistics, econometrics).
- An adequate knowledge of English demonstrated by a score of 80 or higher for the internet based TOEFL test, by a score of 6.0/6.5 or higher for the IELTS, by an official certificate (e.g. Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency or a LCCI - London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – certificate) or by a Bachelor degree from a study programme taught in English.

The application period for the academic year 2012/2013 ended on April 30, 2012. We currently do not accept applications.

Please do not send your application documents to us by regular mail, we only need the documents uploaded in the online application.
Applicants need to upload the following documents
- degree certificate (if degree has already been completed)
- academic transcripts
Please include a certified translation of your degree certificate and your academic transcripts if both documents are not in German or English.
- current and complete curriculum vitae
- one letter of recommendation from academic teacher (there is no special form for it, university letterhead will do)
- TOEFL or IELTS test scores or other internationally recognized language certificate such as e.g. CPE or LCCI
Test scores are not required if English is your native language or if your study program is taught in English
Please include a copy of your TOEFL or IELTS test with your application.
If you want to have ETS sent the TOEFL test scores directly to us, please use the following code number: 7156 (University of Bonn, Master program in Economics)
- bibliography listing the books and articles that have been covered in your study program (or a representative selection)
- APS certificate (applicants with degrees from Chinese and Vietnamese universities only)
- GRE test scores (these are not required but strongly recommended especially for non-EU applicants)

Please note:
We will accept complete applications only. (Exception: Students who have not received their degree certificate prior to the application deadline may submit it upon receipt.)
We will confirm the receipt of your application documents but we will not give out information about your application status during the application period and the selection process. All applicants will be informed about the decision of the selection committee by the end of May 2012.
Only a limited number of spaces are available per academic year. Hence not all students applying to the program can be admitted even if they meet all the entry requirements.

Tuition and Fees:
Students only have to pay the social service fee (no tuition fee). This fee includes the costs for the semester ticket (for public transportation throghout North Rhine Westphalia) and currently amounts to 234,72 Euro.
There is no application fee.
Funding:
German universities usually do not award scholarships or grants as they do not have the necessary resources at their disposal. Some scholarships for exceptionally qualified candidates are available from various national organisations, such as e.g. the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Please check their homepage for further details (www.daad.de ).

Cost of Living:
The average monthly costs of living, including accommodation, food, books, and medical insurance will amount to about 600-700 Euros. This is just an estimate, however, since costs may vary widely according to the type of accommodation students are choosing.
