Transfer of Credits

Transfer of Credits to the Study Program Master in Economics

Individual examinations taken in study programs at other public or state-approved universities, at public or state-approved academies or institutions of higher education, or in study programs at foreign public or state-approved universities will be recognized on application, provided there are no substantial differences between the individual examinations taken and the modules that are to be substituted.

Transfer of Credits on Application Examination Regulations 2011 (start of studies winter semester 2016/17 or earlier)

Either you decide not to hand in an application for transfer of credits. Consequently there will be no transfer of credits. Students with preliminary studies either in Germany or abroad start their studies in the first semester.
Or you decide to hand in an application for transfer of credits. In this case the credits will be transferred if there are no significant differences. A further selection of credits to be transferred is not possible. This includes failed attempts in all study programs that are comparable or which show a substantial content similarity to the study program Master in Economics.

Transfer of Credits on Application Examination Regulations 2017 (start of studies winter semester 2017/18 or later)

You have to hand in an application for transfer of credits for each individual credit. If several credits are to be transferred at the same time, your may do so on one form.
Transfer of credit applications may be handed in each semester. Having registered for an exam, you may not hand in a transfer of credit application for this exam (fixed limitation period).
If credits are transferred, this will be effected without a grade and with a "passed" remark. A transfer of credits will be shown as such on your Certificate.

Refusal of Enrollment/Studying in Bonn impossible

In case an examination required for the respective study program according to the corresponding Examination Regulations has been failed in its final attempt at a university or an institution of higher education in Germany, it is not possible to enroll. The same applies to study programs that show a substantial content similarity if determined by the corresponding Examination Regulations.

In case of doubt whether your study program shows a substantial content similarity or is identical, please contact the Examination Office before enrollment.

How to Transfer Credits

If you contact us beforehand, we will inform you (non-bindingly) if we already have information concerning the transfer of credits in your study program. The official transfer of credits will be effected once the application for the admission to the master program has been submitted.
Please fill out the respective transfer of credits form. You might have to fill out more than one and/or different transfer of credits forms. Please make a preliminary assessment based on the module descriptions. If an assessment should need to be amended, this will be effected either on handing in the transfer of credits form by the Examination Office and/or by the expert evaluator.

Preliminary Studies

If you have studied in an additional bachelor or master study program to the one with which you gained access to the Master in Economics, you have to (Examination Regulations 2011) or you may (Examination Regulations 2017) disclose these preliminary studies during the admission to the master program during the first semester (usually in December). This would be the point in time to submit the transfer of credits form.
Examination Regulations 2011: The transfer of credits application is non-revocable. At this time a student may decide once and for all whether to transfer credits or not.
Examination Regulations 2017:  Transfer of credit applications may be handed in each semester. Having registered for an exam, you may not hand in a transfer of credit application for this exam (fixed limitation period).

Parallel Studies

If you are enrolled in more than one study program at the University in Bonn or if you are a visiting student (Zweithörer/in) or if you are enrolled at another university, you are obliged to notify the Examination Office at the end of each semester (at the latest once all exams have been graded for the semester) and, if applicable, hand in an application for transfer of credits form (Examination Regulations 2011, for transfer of credits see above) or you may hand in a transfer of credit application each semester (Examination Regulations 2017, for  transfer of credits see above).

Studies Abroad

Should you decide to hand in an application for transfer of credits form upon returning from studies abroad, this has to be done immediately after having returned (Examination Regulations 2011) or
you may hand in a transfer of credit application each semester (Examination Regulations 2017, for  transfer of credits see above - attention: fixed limitation period).
